Organic '11 FREEBIE #2. . .

Organic '11…it all started with this freebie.

During the Sew Mama Sew Green Grocery Bag Challenge, I was thrilled to see how other people used the pattern to make their own bags or other uses for fabric bags. These produce bags by Daisy Janie are just adorable! And, better yet, the pattern is FREE! Go make some. I'll wait here…

Done yet? Freebie? Oh, right. We have ANOTHER organic fabric freebie for you! Yay! And, it is with Daisy Janie fabric! How great is that? And, how cute is this fabric?

This is what's up for grabs, TWO stacks of 5 fat quarters of Daisy Janie Geo Grand…
 Super cute…
AND, 5 Green Bag Lady bags made from Geo Grand…
And, GUESS WHAT? For you quilters out there and those of you who like to match fabric in general, Daisy Janie teamed up with Harmony Art (and you know I adore Harmony) to have the same chocolate brown. SO, Geo Grand matches beautifully with Harmony Art Chocolate Brown. How do I know? The back of these bags are solid Harmony brown and they are just lovely…lovely, I say!

As if that weren't enough, Daisy Janie is having a SALE in her esty shop. Yup. 25% off a lot of yumminess! Go, go shop, I'll wait.

So, we have 2 stacks of fat quarters, and 5 fab bags up for grabs for any SEVEN folks to win!! Wow! And, to top things off, if you enter and DO NOT already have a bag from us (and do not win one of the above bags), you will get one anyway.

The rules, how to enter, what to do, yada yada yada…

So cool!

At the intersection of West Broad and Alps Road in Athens, Georgia, if you're looking to catch a bus, you can wait at the region's most innovative (and recycled) bus stop. It's made from three old school buses (years 1962, 1972 and 1977), with the seat taken from a decommissioned Atlanta city bus.

Other things. . .

I have made exactly 3 quilts in my life. Well, 3 that aren't meant for dolls. Tiny ones don't count. #1 can be seen here in my re-done sewing room. #2 was sent to Harmony for Christmas. And, introducing #3…

Isn't she sweet? She is made entirely from vintage flannel. A box of these scraps was donated to Green Bag Lady. I couldn't stand to see them just go into pet beds, so I washed them and gave them some love. The large piece of vintage flannel on the back was bought at Thread Fest this fall. I know the sewing lines aren't straight for all of you quilters looking closely, they are not supposed to be. I just wander around my quilts until they are done. :) Kinda like I do through life! Teresa

PS--This will go to a special baby girl to be born this summer!
PPS--Bagette Margaret took pity on my unbinding ways and bound it for me, by hand, beautifully. I heart you Margaret!

Pennsylvania Bag!

Hi Teresa, I linked to you and posted some pics of my new bag on my blog. Love your project.

The well traveled bag…

…is now in COSTA RICA! (read more HERE)
Hi Teresa,

I'm really getting a LOT of use out of my GBL here in Costa Rica.. I use it as a 'purse' for walking on the beach...
It's perfect...  Here is a view of the sunset the other night on Playa Negra in Puerto Viejo, CR and I couldn't resist
posing with my GB!  Take care, Leesa

Maybe tomorrow?

Handmade Christmas IV

Ya, I know it is AFTER the big day. But, I couldn't show you this before otherwise the surprise would have been ruined!

Sometime in the fall Little Girl drew this…the prices crack me up…

I think Little Girl told Big Girl that the green outfit was her fav…
For Christmas, Big Girl reproduced that outfit for Little Girl for her American Girl and Madam Alexander dolls. Isn't that sweet? I helped a bit, but most of it was done by Big Girl. It was even her idea to use fabric markers to recreate the skirt fabric when we could not find any that would work. And here it is…
Little Girl puts her dolls in it all the time and was ABSOLUTELY thrilled with it on Christmas day. Makes my heart so happy. Off to see the Bagettes for our Sunday afternoon bag time. Teresa

Zero cost toy…

Remember this post? The idea came from Made by Joel. Little Girl is one of the 8 people who reads this blog. Thank you Little Girl. And, thank YOU for reading too. Anyway, she decided that we should make one today. Perfect, go enlist your father, he is probably in the basement playing with power tools anyway.

Cost: Zero
Time involved: 10 minutes
Play time: 2 hours and going strong…

Thank you Joel, don't know you, but you are my new favorite person! Teresa

A little more…

C'mon. . .

girl, you can do it! Taken today.

Texas Bag!

I sent off my bag from the Take one make one Freebie giveaway. My recipient declined a photograph so I am sending the one I took of it before I mailed it. Thank you so much for the generous gifts. They are being well used already. Also, I love the pattern and have made several already, including a sort of upgraded downsized version for my little girl to use. She had commandeered mine, which I needed, so I changed the pattern up a bit and also made it little bitty for her so she can carry her groceries too (and toys, and books and whatever else she finds to put in it).

Thanks again!
Amy

I'm a fan of Van. . .

Van Jones lays out a case against plastic pollution from the perspective of social justice. Because plastic trash, he shows us, hits poor people and poor countries "first and worst," with consequences we all share no matter where we live and what we earn. At TEDxGPGP, he offers a few powerful ideas to help us reclaim our throwaway planet.

Snow day. . .again. . .

We have a snow day here in Tennessee again. Kids love it. Parents are groaning. Again. . .

 No, I don't live on a farm. . .
 Tracks. . .
 This one's my fav. . .

Enjoy YOUR day, snow or not. Teresa

PS, yes, I know my header is boring. I'm having technical difficulties. I hope to see my web guru this afternoon. Fixed, hope you like it!

Waiting. . . patiently . . .

My husband gave me an amaryllis bulb kit before Christmas. She's a little tilted, just like me. I'm waiting patiently for her to bloom. Of course, she's a she. I keep thinking "any day now" every time I pass her by. . . Teresa

Worth it. . .

This is worth 6 minutes of your time. It should remind you how lucky you are. Normally graduation is pretty boring, but I'm glad I was there this year! Watch and you will see why. Teresa

You should really go read his last post about how plastic bags are killing camels. Sheesh. Yuck. Ugh. Sigh. Teresa

Happy Wednesday! Teresa

This past Sunday. . .

As I have mentioned before, the Bagettes and I get together every Sunday afternoon and work on bags. No sewing actually takes place but a lot of cutting, ironing, prepping, gabbing and chocolate consumption sure does! Then, the bags go home with individuals for all the sewing.

We had a record 11 Bagettes, yes 11 in 2011 (I'm seeing a theme here) show up! Love you Bagettes!

ANNIVERSARY FREEBIE!!!!

Guess what?

3 years ago, 900 posts ago and 14,000 bags ago, Green Bag Lady began from a pile of fabric in my sewing room. It is truly hard to believe what has happened since January of 2008. Yikes! Really? 14,000 bags. I could not have done any of this without the Bagettes, all my sponsors, fabric donors, and YOU dear readers!

Thanks!

14,000 is not enough though. . .we are greedy. We want MORE people using fabric bags. MORE people carrying Green Bag Lady bags every day. MORE, MORE, MORE! Ah ha ha ha (insert crazy person laugh here)!

Here is what is up for grabs. . .2 special bags. . .

Bag number 12,000. . . why do we still have this? Well, it was never claimed from THIS freebie. . . it is so sad and feeling dejected and needs a good home. . .it is tired of hanging in my sewing room. . .
Bag number 14,000. . . made just for you, by little old me. . .
And a pile of lightweight bags just itching for a new home, to be useful, to be loved, to help save the world from plastic bags. . . too dramatic? I'm channeling my 12 year old drama queen. . .
Also, Bagette Dad informs me that he is REALLY bored and needs something to do, so leave LOTS of comments for him to read. Tell EVERYONE about the freebie!

ANYONE, even if you already have a bag from us can win bag #s 12,000 and 14,000, we will pick randomly from all the comments. If you DO NOT have a bag from us already, you can win one of the lightweight (perfect for shipping AND for putting in purse or pocket) bags! If we have enough, we will send them to EVERYONE that leaves a comment! Wow!

Also, since Bagette Dad needs something to do, he is offering up a special prize for one entrant. I don't know what it is, it is top secret apparently. If he lets me know, I'll let YOU know!

To enter please do the following:

•LEAVE A COMMENT, IN THE COMMENT LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THIS FORMAT: name(at)something(dot)com it is important to spell out dot and at so you don't get spam, if you DO NOT leave an email address, we will not hunt you down to send you a freebie, thanks.
