The view leaving Ushuaia…

Goodbye Ushuaia, we wish we could have spent more time exploring your beauty…
Teresa

My dinner last night in Ushuaia…

…just want you to know I am not starving…

Leaving Ushuaia…

My internet connection here in Puerto William is REALLY slow, I better post this before I get kicked off again!

These were 2 of the adorable employees at the hotel in Ushuaia. Had to give them bags!

Thanks Virna and Nadia! Enjoy your bags! Teresa

Ushuaia…

I spent a lot of time today in taxis and planes working my way from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia (which is considered one of the southernmost cities in the world)…

This is Robert, me and Alfred on the plane. Alfred is Robert's friend from childhood, he is saying something like, "Why is this crazy lady next to me doing jazz hands?"
I could only snap a few pics of Ushuaia with my iPhone in the taxi on the way to the hotel, do you see the faint rainbow in the one below?
I promise to take more tomorrow in the morning before we have to leave to get the ferry…
True story, while we were riding in the taxi, we stopped at a light and this girl rode her bike in front of the car. Why is she stopped on the sidewalk you ask? Well, see that plastic bag on the handle bar? It ripped open and all her stuff fell on the path and she had to pick it up. Now if she had used a fabric bag…
I'm just sayin'… I will report more on Ushuaia and Puerto William tomorrow. We get on the boat on March 1, at least that is the plan at the moment! Teresa

One last thing before I leave Argentina…

A nice photo of the little Green Bag Lady doll that Adry made. I mean, c'mon, how sweet is she?
I heart her. Teresa

What I saw today…

Beautiful Buenos Aires architecture…
A guy hanging from the side of a building painting it…
A cool restaurant called Dada (yummy)…
Sprite gum, tastes good, like Sprite, imagine that…
Enjoyed watching Robert sketch…
 More beauty…
 Love…
Lovely blooming trees, ugly plastic bag (insert sigh here)…
Then the best part, I got to meet Vivy and Adry. They have been following Green Bag Lady for over 2 years, aren't they adorable?
Look what Adry knit, a little "me" doll carrying fabric bags. I promise to take a close up soon. It is too precious for words. I LOVE it, so much…
See, she even had a big bag that she made from the Green Bag Lady pattern that matches one of the little ones that she made for the "me" doll!
And look at all the fun Buenos Aires items that Vivy gave me. One is a hand carved desk set, so pretty, a glasses case and a cool pen…I heart it all!
These two were even sweeter and more wonderful that I could have ever imagined. I told them I want them to come and visit me in Nashville. I hope they do!
Thank you Buenos Aires for treating me so nice! I do believe I will come back, especially if I get to see Vivy and Adry again!!!!! Teresa

Made it! I'm in Buenos Aires…

Gotta love those long airplane rides! We are here at our hotel in Buenos Aires and it was nice to brush my teeth. Shower is next…

So far, I have seen…Elvis on Robert's phone…
The cutest bottle of salad dressing EVER…no, it is not alcohol. That may have helped me sleep though!
Hope you are having a good weekend! Teresa

One more before I go…

I am a few short hours from walking out the door. Thankfully, my friend Robert is going with me. We are also meeting his friend Alfred at the airport in Dallas. They went to high school together. I know Robert from Belmont. He is a famous children's book author and illustrator. He is going along to do research for a new book. I can't wait to watch him draw on the ship. He is AMAZING! Hopefully, he will let me post some photos of his sketches. He mainly creates books about animals…
There will be 10 of us on the Sea Dragon. We are going through Pangaea Exploration. First, we fly into Buenos Aires and spend a day there. Then we fly to Ushuaia for a night there, the next morning a ferry will take us to the Sea Dragon that will be in port at Puerto William. This is it! It's really happening! I'm honored that YOU are following along! I will do my best to post daily but I am not entirely sure about consistent internet access on the boat. Adios! Teresa

One Plastic Beach…

I posted this video a few days ago. I have been emailing with Richard Lang and told him I would make he and Judith bags for their beach collecting. Here they are… I hope they like them! Teresa

Send offs…

I have had at least 3 send offs. Last Sunday was the brunch and quilt from the Bagettes, Tuesday was a birthday lunch with no less than 8 (yes 8) of the Bagettes. And, yesterday Ann, Margaret, Carole, Barbara and I got together for a little Thursday AM sewing group. I brought a cake because it was Margaret's birthday. I put fish on the cake since we are both pisces! Thanks for all the send off love from here and from all the comments! All of you are the best! Teresa

Don't look Adry, Vivy & Carla…

I leave tomorrow. YIKES! My concern about seasickness has been replaced by a fear of being cold! We were told to pack layers. The dinosaur suitcase is FULL! I may be walking around the ship the entire time wrapped in The Quilt!

I fly out of here, go to Dallas, then to Buenos Aires. We have a one day layover there. What to do? Contact some of the Buenos Aires Green Bag Lady readers, of course! Adry, Vivy and Carla have been following the blog for a while. I get to take them out for dinner! Yay! I can't wait to meet them in person and give them the fun little things below…
I made them each a set of Harmony Art snack bags, a reusable shopping bag (of course) since they already have a Green Bag Lady bag, they will get a panda one with a snap (I love mine) and they each get a Bagette Aunt Frances bag too. :) Hmmm, that's a lot of bags! South America, here I come! Teresa

California Bag!

Thank you so much for the bag, Teresa! I posted a photo of it on my blog here! It's gorgeous! Thanks again :) Kendra

Illinois Bag!

I was so excited to get the reuseable bag in the mail! And I love the fabric it's made of!
Here's a couple of pics of me using it - it holds a lot of stuff!

The Quilt…

This is the new love of my life. I mean, there is my husband, of course, oh and my kids, then the Bagettes, then… You get my point. Here she is, the lovely quilt handcrafted by so many amazing ladies…
Detail shots. Most of the Bagettes contributed one or more squares. Ann did the little bags. Frieda did the boat with stars.
Harmony sent the fabric for the backing, the binding and a few of the squares. Thanks Harmony! Margaret did the binding and Kathleen did the quilting…
See the little blue shirt? That represents Bagette Dad. Thanks Ann. And Rachel did the Green Bag Lady.  Carole and Margaret did all the really complicated squares, they are good like that (above the Green Bag Lady). And so much more, that I know I am missing, Alicia cut pieces out of old bags that were well loved in the past…
Ann did the machine embroidery…it says, "Teresa saves the ocean-one bag at a time." Awwwww.
The 9 squares are from Sara in Knoxville and the lighthouses were from Barbara, Chelsea wished me luck…
April did the bird, of course…
And, she is packed in my bag, ready to go. It is supposed to be cold on the boat, but I am sure to be toasty underneath all this love… Teresa

I didn't post today because…

I was too busy eating cake and turning a year older! Yowza!

Hello Teresa:

I love the bag! I used it today for church, and it fit everything that is only essential to bring to church. And, it matched what I was wearing (in the photo) It was perfect!

Take care,

The sweetest people in all the land…

are the Bagettes. I love them so, not only did they have a Bon Voyage brunch for me today, they secretly made me this incredibly lovely quilt…

In the words of Bagette Kathleen:
All the Baggettes contributed the squares, including the remote members Aunt Frances and Smoky Mountain Bag Lady.  Harmony sent the backing from California and some of Teresa's favorite samples.  Margaret, Carole and Ann did some artistically pieced squares and stitched the top together.  Kathleen did the machine quilting and Margaret did the binding.  We all did the surprising at Sunday Brunch to wish Teresa a Bon Voyage with this beautiful quilt for our Green Bag Lady.

Teresa you inspire each of us with your creativity, your energy and your enthusiasm to "change the world one bag at a time."

Best Wishes, Safe Travels and Love from your Friends,
The Bagettes

From L to R: Bagettes Leyla, Alicia, Barbara (front) April, Carole, me, Connie, Freida, Kathleen, Ann, Chelsea and Margaret (a few people could not make it today, Rachel, Karen, Doris, Joanne and of course our remote Bagettes, Dad, Harmony, Sara & Frances)
I promise to take some more detailed photos of the quilt and post them tomorrow. Happy President's Day! Teresa

From Pilot Hubby…

Thought this might be "blogable."

Instead of using paper lid liners, the Bloomington, IL airport authority has found another use for plastic. A motorized plastic toilet lid liner! Yep, hit the button and new plastic rotates around the toilet seat for your safety and comfort.

Do we really need more plastic?

I think it's ...well, kind of poopy.

Hubby

So worth 7, okay 8 minutes…

I heart them…
