Organic Evelyn (I mean '11 #5) FREEBIE!

Bagette Dad LOVES his La-Z-Boy recliner. To a kind of scary degree. Really. I decided that since he spends so much time in said recliner that it should have a cover that could be taken off and washed from time to time. Harmony was kind enough to donate the fabric for this cause. To make a long story short, I was going to have my fabulous slip cover lady here in Nashville (who even made covers for Harmony's couch!) make TWO covers, one for dad's chair and one for the chair at my house.

But, we decided that only one cover was necessary (too long of a story) and I ended up with some of Harmony's Evelyn and Janette that was already cut but was not going to live the dream and become a chair cover. SO, what to do with cut fabric? Make bags, of course, and YOU get to benefit.

I have 12 of these lovely Evelyn and Janette Green Bag Lady bags up for grabs. This is one of my favorite Harmony fabrics. The design is scrumptious and the weight is a nice twill, perfect for bags.
 Aren't they pretty?

Last Sunday…

We got a lot done this past Sunday when the Bagettes and I met…
Mainly because we had a few extra people. SEVEN extra to be exact. The Belmont pharmacy graduate students came to help us…
They got to work right away helping cut handles and taking labels off the mountain of fabric samples we have in boxes…
 Bagette Kathleen was supervising…
They did a fantastic job and were lots of fun to be around…
 Thanks for coming everyone!
 Here is the whole gang…
See, every photos is better with jazz hands (big thumbs up to Cassidy in the back for her extra enthusiastic jazz hands!)…
The fabulous pharmacy students with their new bags…
I heart Sundays--Teresa

PS, questionable photo quality due to iPhone :)

Last Day in Valdivia…

Our last day in Valdivia we stuck pretty close to the hotel mainly because it was raining on and off. I also wanted to organize my photos. Here are some of the hotel grounds on a nice walk. Beautiful hydrangeas…
I ate my weight in blackberries on my walk. They are literally EVERYWHERE in Valdivia. I was surprised that they weren't a more popular menu item…
The ground had a path to the water with a dock…

 Yum…
 Crazy spiderweb…

Valdivia Day 3

On this day, I went back and visited the boat for a couple of hours. I wanted to photograph Anna Rotander, the Swedish environmental scientist from the MTM Research Center in Orebro University. She was processing some of the water samples from the trip. "Anna is part of a team at Orebro University, that studies human and environmental exposure to fluorinated, chlorinated and brominated chemicals. Her lab does research on where the chemicals are found and documents methodologies on how to record them accurately.

The chemicals we are looking for are, 'extremely strong, they don't break down and it gives them these unique properties. They are used in gortex clothing, teflon pans, ski wax products, surfers use them. They're also found in cleaning products and firefighting foam,' Anna said. 'We want to see if we can find them in the plastic accumulation zones." These persistent organic pollutants - or POPs - are everywhere but in larger density in the Northern Hemisphere where there is a larger human population and more industry. Anna noted that because of the ocean's currents these chemicals could be found anywhere in the world - even in a place like the Magellan Strait in Chile, where the population is tiny. By studying the presence of the chemicals in different areas the lab can help to map the plastic, where it comes from and how the ocean's currents distribute it around the world." (quote from Brit Liggett's post)

I'll keep you updated on what Anna finds once she gets all the processed samples back to her lab in Sweden.

After I took these photos, I popped up on deck to say hi to Jeff and Clive. I looked out over the beautiful ocean and what did I see? Yup, a plastic water bottle floating about 40 feet from the boat. I'm sure it blew off of one of the docked vessels. It made me sigh…
Jeff and I then went back to the hotel to meet up with Alfred and Robert. We all had lunch in Valdivia. There were many boats parked in the dock making for a great photo…
Robert and Alfred cooked up a scheme to buy fresh seafood at the port and then have the kitchen at the hotel make it for us for dinner. It was great, the crab was my fav…
We also ordered stuffed mushrooms. These were amazing! They were stuffed with tomato, basil and mozzarella. So simple, but so yummy, I'm going to make these…
Is it Tuesday already? Teresa

Valdivia Day 2

Valdivia Day 2 brought sunning sea lions…
 Another shot of the pier…
Crazy street art…
My lunch. I ordered a veggie sandwich. Apparently, that means you get 2. I only ate one. I mean c'mon…
Hope you are having a good week! Teresa

Valdivia Day 1

Our first day on dry land in Valdivia was nice. It was good to walk around and get some blood pumping back in our legs! One of the first places we went was to Kunstmann's Cerveceria. This is a main tourist attraction in Valdivia.
\
I'm not a beer drinker, but I'm told it was good…
Jeff got a sandwich as big as his head!
 Recycling in Valdivia! Yay…
The port in Valdivia, another of the main tourist attractions…
 Inside the fish market…
One of the HUGE sea lions that beg for fish at the market. They are the biggest I have ever seen…
A fun day! Teresa

More Chile Pics, March 16…

These photos were taken shortly after we docked in Valdivia. There was just enough fog to make everything lovely…this photo is one of my favorites of the trip…
One last photo group before we all left the boat…
I had everyone put on on their "the winds are crazy and it is raining and the boat is going really fast, I'm not sure I can steer this thing" face…
The main crew L to R self titled "Boat Monkey Jeff," First Mate Dale and Captain Clive…
A few shots from Valdivia in the next couple of days and I'll be caught up! Teresa

More Chile Pics, March 12…

More photos of our stop at Seno Iceberg. Truly one of the most spectacular days of the trip! A bit more info on this spot from another traveler. Map here.

Shades of grey before going into Seno Iceberg…
Our dolphin friends that led us to the glacier. There were at least 3 with us at all times…wonderful…
Look at that blue. I think that is what amazed most of us were the colors that were so pure and pristine…
 Just gorgeous…

What a breathtaking day! Teresa

More Chile Pics, March 11…

Even though it was because of the tsunami warning, Puerto Eden remains one of my favorite and picturesque stops of the trip. It was nice to pause and take some photos.

 Robert buying much needed socks…
 My new friend…
View of the Sea Dragon from shore, taken with my iPhone (hipstamatic app)…
View of other boats, thanks for the timely appearance dear bird…
