Shrinky Dinks + Divine Twine = FABULOUS!

We are still making Shrinky Dinks here at Casa Green Bag Lady. We love 'em! First time around I made charms for Big Girl and everyone in her cheerleading camp. They adored them! One of the parents even told me that I should sell them. Ha, um, no, not good at selling stuff. Much better at giving away! Surprised?
I dropped off Big Girl at Girl Scout camp yesterday. Whaahaaahaa, I miss her so much! The other two kids and a couple of friends were here making Shrinky Dinks today. I decided to make a camp care package. I made a whole bunch of charms (I don't know how many are in her group) and sent many lengths of Divine Twine. I hope they like them!
For these charms, I used the white Shrinky Dinks and wrote on BOTH sides. Awesome! To make the perfect ovals, I used an egg shaped paper punch that is about 2 inches high and shrinks to about 3/4 in. The hole is made with a regular paper punch. Jump rings are available at Michael's (also where I got the Shrinky Dinks) and Joann's. Happy summer! Teresa

Little Man Sews…

Every time Little Man would walk in the sewing room he would gaze longingly at the machines. Occasionally he would ask when he would get to learn to sew. This would get more urgent when his sisters would sew. I finally gave in and let him stitch lines on a piece of paper on the slowest setting the machine would allow. He had a ball!
After a couple of days of making multiple things with his new skill, he decided to try hand stitching too…
He is so proud of all his creations…
It was his idea to make the red, while and blue star…
This is my favorite, and the first thing he worked on after the paper stitching. Isn't this a wonderful jelly fish? He told me today, "Mom, even though I'm a boy, I really like to sew." I told him that all boys should at least know how to sew on a button (ahem, dear Hubby) and that a lot of men know how to sew.
I hope you had a lovely weekend! Stay tuned for a freebie this week! Teresa

I cannot express to you how much my children love to go every Tuesday. They save up their quarters and ask for more jobs to earn money to buy shaved ice, tiny pies on sticks, lemonade, etc. Little Man counts down the days to Tuesday each week now.

God Bless America

I don't get very political on this here blog, but when you drive through a protest 4 times in one day, it reminds you of the power of people. By the end of the day over 2,000 people showed up to show support for the family of a fallen Marine they had never met. Choked me up each time I drove though taking my kids to summer camp. (click on images to view larger)

From the Tennessean, full story HERE.

More than two hours before funeral services for fallen Nashville Marine Kevin Balduf are set to begin, more than 1,500 people waving American flags are lining on Franklin Pike.
The showing of mostly bikers and soldiers is in response to the anti-soldier, anti-American message of Kansas's Westboro Baptist Church.
Members of the controversial church announced that they would protest Balduf's funeral.

Yesterday with the ladies…

As many of you know, the fabulous, wonderful and amazing bagettes and I meet every Sunday to iron labels on bags, cut out fresh bags and trim handles. We have a great time, tell stories and eat chocolate. Can you think of a better way to spend your Sunday afternoon? I can't.

Nova Scotia, Canada Bag!

Hi Teresa,

First off I want to thank you for sending me the great bags, I received the bag on Thursday June 9th, made the second bag on Friday and delivered it to my friend Joyce that afternoon. Joyce was really pleased and I know she will use it often so thanks from her as well. I have to tell you though I am bad for making things and not reading the instructions all the way through and since I have made many bags I figured I knew what to do but I should have at least looked more closely at the pink bag as I would have not made this mistake. I made extra work for myself , I made the handles but folding right sides together and sewing and turning, it was very...... difficult to turn that fabric but it is done, live and learn.

I have attached photos of myself and Joyce with her new bag, so a huge thanks for all you do , one bag at a time does make a difference.

Happy stitching,
Sheila Munro,
Nova Scotia, Canada

PS--Sheila got her bag and bag kit from the last Sew Mama Sew freebie. Also, I have changed the pattern (to reflect Sheila's handle issue), I made it more clear that we just serge or zig zag the handles and not sew them inside out and turn them (that would take too much time). However, if you prefer them turned, please feel free to make them that way!
