Happy Halloween! A bit late…

I hope you had a great Halloween. This is three of my colleagues and I being complete art geeks. We are CMYK, like the printer inks. Yep, being the true art/design nerds that we are.
I took my kids out for a little pre-trick-or-treating at a couple Bagette houses. This is Barbara (she is Maine meets Nashville)…
This year I had an indian girl, and Angry Birds pig and the cutest ninja I have ever seen…
We also stopped at Bagette Kathleen's house and got to see Mr. Bagette Kathleen too!
Hope your Halloween was a wonderful one! Teresa

Dear Mother Earth…

Dear Mother Earth--

Thank you for the owl that lives in my yard. I heart hearing it hoot right after dusk. It makes me incredibly happy. Sometime it sits on the tip of the branch shown above. I love that too.

You are the best.

Your BFF--Teresa

North Carolina Bag!

Hey Teresa! Here's the photo my daughter took of me using my bag while we were shopping the other day. Doesn't the bag look sooo chic?!!  I know I've said this about the beach bags... But I absolutely LOVE it!!

Thanks again!
Danielle (from the previous post!)

Beach Bags in Use, again!

Danielle from "It Starts With Me" blog posted about using her beach bags too. She is doing beach clean up just like Sara. Danielle is mainly focusing on cigarette butts which are a huge environmental hazard. All those plastic filters. They may seem small, but billions are used daily and tooooo many end up just thrown on the ground! ugh. Teresa

Argentina Bag!

Hi! Here is the photo with my new and beautiful eco bag!  I´ve also posted about it on my blog: www.almaenlunada.blogspot.com
Have a nice week!

Beach Bags in Use!

Sara of The Daily Ocean sent me a link to her Beach Bags in use. Yay! Sara's mission is 365 non-consecutive days of collecting, weighing and documenting beach trash. She has 138 days to go and has collected over 850 pounds of trash! Thanks for sending the link Sara, I'm glad the bags work well. Hugs--Teresa

Probably the cutest thing I have ever posted…

Source: GRIST

Please read update at the bottom.
Now is the time for all good knitters to come to the aid of some penguins. The New Zealand oil spill has left the little guys in need of some warmth and protection, and a Kiwi yarn store has posted patterns for how to knit "penguin jumpers" and instructions on where to send them.
This is not the first time there's been a call out for penguin sweaters, and the response in the past has been disproportionate. It's a genuine request -- the woolens keep oil-soaked birds warm until they're well enough to be cleaned, and prevent them from nibbling oil off their feathers. But the concept is so gosh-darn charming that crafters go a little nuts trying to help out. In 2001, the Tasmanian Conservation Trust decided to bank some penguin jumpers in the event of future oil spills, but after the request went viral they blew past their goal of 100 stockpiled sweaters, and currently have 10 times that amount.
Still, there really is a need for penguin sweaters, especially in light of this new oil spill. And they don't really have a shelf life, so even if your creation languishes for a while, it will go to some needy bird eventually.
UPDATE: Skeinz, the yarn shop that posted the patterns, said they have achieved critical mass of jumpers. We're both happy and sad about this. But they do say that they'll stockpile sweaters if you've got one ready to go -- or you can stockpile them yourself, in case oily penguins show up in your hometown.

Indiana Bag!

Joe and I would like to thank you for such a lovely bag. When it came I immediately filled it with my current crochet project. Given with love, filled with love. It is simply wonderful!

Thank you again,

Awesomeness by Mary Ellen Croteau…

"This Chuck Close-style self-portrait by Mary Ellen Croteau is entirely made of discarded bottle caps. (A lot of them are from sodas, but deodorant caps, childproof pill container lids, soap bottle-style pumps, and tops from bottles of saline solution and eyedrops are also represented, along with probably many more.) This is possibly not a practical recycling solution for everyone, but you gotta admit it looks amazing." Jess Zimmerman

I love it! More on this at GRIST. Teresa

Green Mailbox!

I heart great design. Pair great design with green and I'm in. Shelf for a plant, water runs off the top to hydrate the plant. Yum. Outdoor inox mail box. Wall mounted and self water. Courtesy of Win Land Co. Found HERE.

Stay tuned for a freebie tomorrow! Teresa

Beach Bags…

In one of my conversations with Richard and Judith Lang, we talked about collecting plastic at the beach and how it can be difficult due to all the sand. Anyone who has been to a beach knows you can't leave without thousands of little grains in every nook and cranny. My brain got to churning about this issue. I promised Richard and Judith I would come up with some kind of bag specifically for beach gathering.

Here they are! They are made out of vinyl that was donated to Green Bag Lady. The sand will slide right off. And, they have a mesh bottom so any grains that get inside will just keep going back on to the beach!

I had all the supplies on hand and most of them were donated with other fabric. Even the bright orange is also vinyl that was in a donation box. The mesh was a HUGE beach toy bag that has been sitting in my basement for years. It was far too big and bulky to use so it got the axe, I mean scissors…

These are for Richard and Judith

And, while I was at it, I made some for all my other buddies who are so great at keeping our beautiful beaches beautiful. These are for Sara
These are for Danielle that I posted about HERE
And last (but definitely not least) this one is for Harmony
Enjoy everyone, let me know how they work! Teresa

Other sewing…

I am on fall break. Yay! And,  sewing through my to do list. This was first on the list.

My Texas friend Amy has an adorable little boy who gets all Little Man's hand-me-downs. In one of the boxes was a dinosaur costume from a few years ago. Everette is dino crazy, perfect for Halloween. And, his new (16 weeks) baby sister will be this tiny dino hatching from an egg. No pattern, just made it up as I went along. I hope it fits!
I told Amy she had to send photos. I can't wait to see Zori in this. Her little face popping through the hole. The bottom is open so they can just slide her in and put the shoes (free pattern here) on her tiny feet. I hope they have some green or pink socks to complete the look!
What are your kids going to be for Halloween? Big Girl is going to be a flapper, Little Girl a native american and Little Man a ninja. :) Teresa

Parking Day, San Francisco

Have you heard of Parking Day? It's an annual worldwide event that invites citizens everywhere to transform metered parking spots into temporary parks for the public good. The most recent Parking Day was on September 16 and Green Bag Lady was involved in San Francisco!

Bagette Kathleen was visiting her daughter and Julie's company turned a parking spot into a park for a day AND gave out Green Bag Lady bags too! Yay! Take a look…

Thank you Wallace Roberts and Todd, LLC for letting us be a part of your Parking Day! Thank you Julie for the idea! Thank you Kathleen for being a fantastic Bagette and hauling all those bags in your suitcase! Teresa

Can't believe I forgot…

…to show you the party bags for Little Man's birthday…

Star Wars, of course. Green Bag Lady bags, of course. Kid size, of course. Filled with fruit and a few pieces of candy. Big Girl wrote all the kids' names on the white back with fabric markers. Little Man and the other kids loved them, of course. The fabric? Empire Strikes Back sheet from 1987 given to me by my neighbor, of course! Teresa

My sweet boy…

I love that my Little Man wants to sew, by hand and by machine…
I love that he made himself a water bottle holder (and used it at soccer on Tuesday)…
 I love that he turned 7 yesterday…
And invited his whole class to a party at the roller rink…
What happened? This was just a few years ago…
Happy Birthday Little Man, I love you! Mom
