Beach Bag in Use!

The winter storms have brought to our beaches a bounty of plastic pieces.
Thankfully I have my Tiger Bag!  The handy mesh bottom lets sand fall through and keeps the plastic pieces inside.
Love and gratitude,
harmony

Glad you are enjoying your beach bag and thanks for cleaning up your little corner of the world for the rest of us!

Great ways to reduce your plastic usage!

Ways to Reduce your Usage:
1. Take your own reusable bags to all stores, not just the grocery store.
2. Do not use plastic produce bags. Larger items like apples and tomatoes don't need a bag. Just cluster them together at checkout. For items like chili peppers or okra, bring your own reusable produce bags.
3. When purchasing items like celery and carrots, choose those without plastic packaging.
4. Buy toilet tissue that does not include inner plastic packaging.
5. Buy sliced cheese that does not have individually wrapped slices.
6. Instead of covering your bowl of leftovers with plastic film before microwaving, cover it with a plate.
7. Stop buying plastic zipper bags. You'll be surprised how easy it is to find reusable substitutes.
8. Shop the bulk food section for items like pasta and beans. Bring your own light-weight reusable bags, and then transfer the food into airtight containers at home.
9. When buying any product, choose no packaging if possible, but then choose paper over plastic.
10. Stop buying beverages packaged in plastic bottles. Opt for aluminum, which is much more efficiently recycled.
11. Stop buying bottled water altogether. Instead, filter your own water and carry it in reusable BPA-free water bottles.
12. Refuse plastic bags at your dry cleaners, and instead, take a garment bag with you for your cleaned clothes.
13. Use reusable storage containers instead of plastic wrap for leftovers.
14. Use wax paper instead of plastic wrap for lunches.
15. And finally, when you do end up with a plastic bag, plastic bubble wrap or anything else plastic that's meant for a single use, reuse it anyway - and then recycle it properly.
Cherri send me this article about reducing the amount of single use plastic we all use. I particularly like #12. I don't use dry cleaning services much, but I will bring my own garment bag from now on! Thanks Cherri--Teresa

Ukraine Bag!

Good day. Thank you for a bag that I got from you. I unfortunately could not make the picture yourself with a bag, but I made a photo bag. during his walks through the park.

Antoniuk R.
Kyiv, UKRAINE

From old to new + thrilled little boy…

I had an old sewing basket, box, tote, whatever that I never used anymore. I had it in the giveaway pile when a thought struck me, "Why not recover it?" Little Man likes to hand stitch and both of his sisters have sewing boxes, but all the ones in stores look really girly…

Sewing Box Redo Tutorial

Before…
We picked out this fun fabric thinking it would go nicely with the existing navy blue trim…
First, take off the velcro closure on the front of the box. I used a seem ripper…

Then, measure the top and cut the fabric about 1cm bigger width and length wise than the top. The top was padded so I had to push the ruler down to get an accurate measurement…
Next apply a generous layer of Modge Podge (I used glossy) to the entire top of the box…
Lay the fabric flat on the Modge Podge, smooth out any wrinkles and apply ANOTHER layer of Modge Podge on TOP of the fabric (It doesn't matter if you get Modge Podge on the trim of your box, it blends in once dry)…
Then take a pointy object (I used a tweezers) and tuck the fabric into the cracks all the way around the top…
Measure and cut another length of fabric to go around the side and back, repeat the tucking with the tweezers…

Let it dry overnight…
Sew a piece of felt to fit over the closure tab, remembering to sew the velcro on first, then use a generous bit of Modge Podge to stick the other side of the velcro closure to the box, let dry again over night…
And you are done and your little boy is very happy to fill it with many treasures!
Let me know if you give your sewing box a facelift! Teresa

Cool shadow art from used bottles…

Rashad Alakbarov uses every day items to make awesome shadow art. Check him out HERE. Teresa

A teensy bit in love…

Aren't these great? I would be happy to give any of the above a new home. And, at VERY reasonable prices, so could you! Read on:

UPCYCLED INNER TUBE COLLECTION

Eco Fashions has partnered with a recycling group in Latin America to bring you products made from discarded truck and tractor tire inner tubes. Instead of ending up in a landfill where they would take years to break down, this group has developed a way to re-use the rubber from inner tubes and fashion them into stylish eco conscious bags and accessories – the ultimate example of what we like to call "upcycling".
Not only are these products good for the environment, the production of these goods is providing employment for local communities and provides individuals a fair living wage, training, and job security.
When you purchase one of these Eco Fashions products, not only are you helping to reduce the number of inner tubes that would be thrown into landfills that pollute the Earth, you are helping communities in need of sustainable employment at fair wages.
It's just another way you can help Eco Fashions promote style with a conscience.

Germany Bag!

Dear Teresa,
with Christmas and everything I ran a little late in taking pictures of your bags in use.
But here they come. I’m sorry you meant the little bag to be for fresh fruit, but I couldn’t stop myself from making a maching cord and use it to store my dried apples.
Thanks for your work!
Kind Regards,
Leo

with respect, Julia.

Trash Me Lamp

&Tradition‘s Victor Vetterlein-designed Trash Me Lamp is created from the paper pulp of 4-paper egg cartons that are spread over a mold and left to dry. The concept word behind the piece is “transient,” in that people’s attention and interest in things is somewhat brief. The lamp can be taken apart quickly and then recycled into something new once it is no longer desired.

England Bags!

Organic '12 + Timeless Treasures + 19,000=First FREEBIE of the year!

Here we are in 2012. The freebies I loved the most in 2011 were the Organic '11 ones. It was so fun to get to know people from organic fabric companies and to meet others who believe in using items from nature in their work, especially Ling Yen (+ HERE) and Janet Setter (+ HERE). Their jewelry is wonderful!

Just a little recap of the companies that donated fabric for Organic '11 Freebies:

Harmony Art Organic Design + HERE + HERE + HERE + Ironing Board Covers + HERE + HERE

Daisy Janie
Amy Butler Organic Bedding
Stitch Simple
Cloud9
Swanky Swell
Birch Fabrics
Alabama Chanin
Les Indiennes
Monaluna

The generosity of these companies has me speechless. Truly. Especially Harmony and her overwhelming support of Organic '11. Did you know that I started Organic '11 as a nod to the movie Oceans 11? Tis true. The sequel is Oceans 12. I believe a sequel is in order around here too, hence Organic '12! :) Let's get started…

Our first Organic '12 Freebie is with Timeless Treasures fabric. They have these fun organic choices. We have 3 bags up for grabs + 2 fabric stacks…
