CSA Events…

Tuesday and Thursday are the pick up days for my CSA. It's always exciting to see what local/fresh produce we get from week to week. This week we got squash, onions, broccoli, cauliflower and lettuce. This week, the bagettes and I gave something back, bags…

This is April and I at the Tuesday pick up…
We worked hard, at one point, we were completely slammed…
Cute peeps with bags!
Then, today, Bagettes Kathleen and Connie helped out. We gave away over 100 bags each day. Whew! Oh, and it was REALLY hot both days…

 More cute peeps with bags…
Thanks for coming everyone, it was great to meet all you CSA members! Teresa

Smart Bagette!

Bagette Jessica is beautiful, funny and smart! To top it all off she just bought herself the cutest Smart Car! Isn't it great? I want to give them both a big hug! Teresa

Bag as Bib!

Hi Teresa!

I dug up this photo of Chas using our Green Bag Lady Bag made from Harmony Art Sweet Jane fabric as a bib at a restaurant.  While this photo was taken a while back, we end up using the bag like this ALL the time since I seem to remember everything except a bib whenever we got out to eat.... and I'm always packing my Green Bag Lady bag :).

Have a great weekend!
Jen

Thanks for the photo Jen (Chas is ADORABLE!), I LOVE this idea! All my kids have outgrown bibs, but maybe this tip will come in handy for others! Teresa

An email from Russia…

Dear Teresa!
Greetings from Russia.
My name is Alina, I’m 22 y.o. student and volunteer of social organizations that helps elderly people and handicapped as well as those who are lonely or in nursing homes.
I’m living in a wonderful ancient town of Nizhny Novgorod in Nizhny Novgorod Region that is known to be the home of

1) famous Russian Matryoshka Dolls
2) Golden Hohloma ( that is kind of painting on wood)
3) And unfortunately one of the regions with the worst ecology in Russia because of lots of plants and manufactures.
I was asking myself what can I do to reduce the impact we cause and came to the conclusion that I can easily refuse from using of ecologically unfriendly materials and start from plastic bags. First, I decided to count how many plastic bags I take when shopping and I was shocked – up to 10 bags of different sizes per time! That’s unbelievable and unacceptable! Second, I decided to reduce the amount of plastic bags I use and then throw away. It was hard at first and inconvenient but then I got used to doing that. So now I use only one or 2 plastic bags and use them as long as I can. And fortunately, I found your site today and thought that was a wonderful idea to use fabric bag for shopping especially when it looks really esthetic! My first intention was just to ask you to send me your beautiful bag but then thought of making it myself with my own hands) that was a challenge for me as I have no sewing-machine and no appropriate fabric! But all in all I’m happy with a result and hope my bag will serve me for a while.
So thank you very much for your bags and for inspiration you gave to me!
Take care and have a lovely spring,
-          Alina

Alina, this is truly wonderful, your bag looks great and we are sending you one of ours to help with your shopping too. Thank you for all your kind words and we hope that you will continue to spread the message in Russia that fabric is better than plastic for people and the planet! Thanks! Teresa

To go…

When I was visiting Harmony in San Francisco we did a little shopping and I bought a set of to go utensils. I had been thinking about getting some for a while and had not decided which ones to get then I saw these…
They are small, lightweight, made out of bamboo, and the carry case is recycled PET. Yes! I love it all. They now live in my purse and come in quite handy…
Especially when you leave Costco and are really hungry for one of the yogurts you just bought but don't have a spoon, wait, you DO have a spoon! :) Teresa

You can get your own set from HERE. Or there are several similar ones out there like THIS one that uses Harmony's fabric!

Welcome to the World!

Announcing the birth of Bag #20,000! Isn't she beautiful?

Mother's Day + Vintage Freebie!

I'm always hesitant to cut any of the vintage fabric in my life, you too? I'm never quite sure what to do with it. I love to look at it and the funky color combos but when it come to actually making anything, I'm at a loss. I wish I was one of those women that could cut it up into a cute skirt and run around town. Not happening. We all know I am a jeans girl at best. My favorite days are spent entirely in yoga pants. Let's be honest, comfy is the way to go.

Soooo, enter the dresser drawers and bins on the shelf in my sewing room. Two drawers and two bins are stuffed with vintage pieces. Just hanging out. I have made some quilts out of it (seen herehere, here and here) and will undoubtably make more. Maybe this summer? In the meantime, there are some of the fabrics that I can't imagine in a quilt. Either they are too thick (canvas or denim) or not what I'm looking for in a color scheme.

What to do? Make bags. Surprised, aren't you? I can tell by the way your mouth dropped open in disbelief. Anyway, have 12 fun ones to give away…

A small portion of the vintage fabric mountain taking over my sewing room…
Sewn into fun bags for you!
There is a catch though. In order to get one of these bags you have to be a mom OR give it to YOUR mom. Got it? You can enter yourself and say you are keeping it (and you deserve it) because all us moms deserve a pretty vintage bag that reminds us of easier times in our lives (like the 70s) OR you can enter to win one for YOUR mom. She will love it, trust me.

Go ahead, enter:

•LEAVE A COMMENT, IN THE COMMENT LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THIS FORMAT: name(at)something(dot)com it is important to spell out DOT and AT so you don't get spam, if you DO NOT leave an email address, you will not be entered in the freebie.

•In your comment tell us who will get the bag if you win! (I'd keep mine since my mom is in heaven!) We will ship it directly to your mom if you like. We will even put a little note in it for you. :)

•TWELVE lucky moms will win vintage bags!

•DEADLINE FOR THE FREEBIE IS 10pm(CST) Monday, May 14, 2012. (winners will be posted here and notified by email no later than May 15)

Don't forget to leave us your email!

Many thanks to Bagette April who helped put my vintage stash over the top at the last Threadfest! Good luck everybody! Teresa

Dear Mother Earth…

Dear Mother Earth--

2 of my favorite things about spring are:

•GIANT magnolia blossoms, that smell incredible

•the return of the fox across the street who frolics in the sun
