Workday Wednesday

This will be a bit lengthy as I haven't done one of these in a while and have been piling up photos to share. Some of these even date to Thanksgiving time. Sheesh! I do so much sewing. More than I could have imagined 5 years ago. Between Green Bag Lady, my etsy shop, gifts and alterations, my machine keeps humming!

In November I made burp cloths for 3 special babies. 2 for friends and one for a cousin who had her first little boy. I love making these. The combo of hand embroidery, cute fabrics and creative use of materials is right up my alley. :)

Tennis ornaments for all my court friends. I started these way back in the summer so I would have time to get them all done before December. Even then I ended up using a machine to finish the edges. I would have preferred to do it by hand. Everyone loved them. And, yes, the strings are a single strand of thread done by hand…

Even though I was crazy busy all December, I managed to crank out a baby quilt for a friend's first grandbaby. How could I refuse? She wanted to us her deceased husband's neckties as part of the design. I used vintage fabric I had on hand for the rest of the squares. The plaid, stripe and floral (under the scissors) are the ties I used.
 It turned out so sweet.
I quilted it in a circular pattern. I love how the necktie fabric blends in.
I even made a vintage fabric Green Bag Lady bag for her to wrap it in for the shower.
A good friend here wanted a lunchbox size bag for her daughter and all her toiletries. He daughter loves pizza and donuts…

And my cousin wanted some sea themed pouches for a diver friend. How cute is this jellyfish fabric? I love all the bright colors. I wrapped them in a recycled Christmas box, included a Green Bag Lady bag and shipped them off. They were a hit too!

Such fun "elving" and gifting that went on around here. I am now back to regular tasks like making bags, alterations, etc. I have picked out several fabrics to make more pouches as my supply is crazy low after the holiday craft fair season. How about you? Did you make lots of fun gifts for the holidays? I'm sure they were well received and loved. Off to pilates. XOXO--Teresa

Dear Teresa,
I love love LOVE the quilt with the ties and vintage fabrics! I have finally found a wonderful vintage 1970's Kenmore sewing machine and it came with a walking foot and quilt guide. After a few years absence, I am so thrilled to have a solid working machine again, I can't begin to tell you! I want to try a similar quilt using my late dad's dress shirts. I am thinking of keeping it simple as far as the piecing and quilting goes, in order to let the focus be on the fabrics. Is it as simple as quilting a center circle and then using the quilt guide follow that? I have done a lot of patchwork, but am only marginally experienced in the quilting part.
Best wishes,
Christine W.
