ANNOUNCING: Santiago, Chile Chapter!

Thrilled to announce our very first chapter in Chile headed up by Bagette Patricia! Yippee! So happy about her starting this chapter and look at her first bag! PERFECTION. Way to go Patricia, keep sewing and welcome to the Green Bag Lady family--Teresa

Dear Teresa,
I started following you on IG (starting first with Initiativehandarbeit in Germany). I congratulate you for starting this great idea, since I also feel terrible seeing the amount of plastic bags at the grocery store. Here in Chile there has been a regulation that it is mandatory to use reusable bags, unfortunately they are also made mainly of plastic!!!   And if you buy fruit or vegetables, still you have smaller but nonetheless plastic bags that would go directly to the landfill.
As a full-time working mother,  I have always put my hands to fabrics in much more quantity than the time I had available to sew, so I have pretty much fabric accumulated to put in use now that I am looking for more creativity in my life.

I think I can encourage also other people in Chile with the idea of sewing (or crocheting!) greenbags or makemetakeme bags to give away to friends etc and reducing plastics. Thinking on upcyclers in general, but also on  including may be grandmothers at elderly homes, jobless women at community centers, mothers gatherings at schools, etc.

Late afternoon fog this week.
How are you? I've had a good week and looking forward to my cousin's wedding tonight in downtown Denver. It's at a pretty cool venue that should be fun. I've added in dairy and coffee with no ill effects so far, yay to that. Off to my sewing room to get some alterations done and tend to some half finished pouches. Have a lovely weekend all you lovely peeps! XOXO--Teresa

PS: Come back tomorrow for a fun fall freebie!

UPDATE: Parker, CO Chapter

I love this. It's so great to see bags used for a cause. It's two gifts in one! Just like what the Nashville Chapter is doing in the last post. Bags are SO useful for a variety of reasons. I have people tell me all the time what they use their bags for, shopping (duh), library, knitting, the mall, food shelf, gift giving, etc, etc, etc. Thanks so much Marianne, you are fantastic! Teresa

I spent the morning placing 100+ gently used books into book bags made using fun novelty print fabrics. These will be donated to a high school for teen parents and their children. Green Bag Lady Parker started working on this project in January and it was our major goal for the year. It is fabulous to see this goal coming to fruition!

UPDATE: Nashville, TN Chapter

I got these photos from Bagette April yesterday and they nearly made me cry. I miss these ladies SO much. Way to go Nashville Chapter. I know the people who get these lovely bags will be thrilled to pieces! XOXO--Teresa

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Green Bag Lady Nashville! We're making bags to donate to the Children of Mercy Home  for their Christmas gifts this year.

Beautiful landscape driving home from our cabin last weekend.
My first craft sale of the season is tomorrow at Little Man's high school. Whew, I feel like I still have SO much to do. I have most of the zip pouches done with just a few more large ones to complete. I need to make a list of all the things to bring with me, like a tablecloth, iPad, Square, cash for change, etc. I better get in gear. Have a fantastic weekend! XOXO--Teresa

Sew Stuff for the Holidays!

Yes, I know, it is just now Halloween. But, let's get to thinking about the other holidays that are swiftly approaching. It's time to get in gear and start your handcrafted items NOW. Here are some past gift ideas with links to all the tutorials.

Ornament Bag Tutorial & Pattern (the sewists in your life would love this!)
 Includes tiny bolts of fabric!
Happy Travels Wallet (perfect for phone, money, credit cards, etc)

Quilted Lunch Tote (I'm going to make one in tennis fabric for one of my tennis pros, she brings her lunch in a plastic bag, GAH!)
 Tennis/Beach Bag
Wrap up your gifts in a festive Green Bag Lady pattern bag!
Maybe even appliqué on the bags!
Or use the gift bag pattern to make very simple wrapping bags.
The homemade possibilities are endless this holiday season and people will love the time and effort you spent to give such personalized gifts. Let me know if you make any of them and share some photos. I would love to see. Cheers and happy sewing! Teresa

Look at these beautiful bags that Joan in Nebraska has made! So nice. AND, she has already made 208! Wow! Keep up the great work Joan, you are amazing. Happy happy! Teresa
Joan here from NE. I have made 208 bags and the most recent give away was at a rehab that my husband goes to. Usually people bring cookies for their birthday but I thought the grocery bags would be much healthier. They were very well received and I have gotten lots of good comments. Also got two other people interested in the project and they are busy sewing bags.
