Plastic Tumbleweeds…Guest Post from Bagette Dad…

Today, as I was coming back from lunch, a plastic bag blew in front of my car. What a shame I thought, but wait a minute, I can do something about that.

So I STOPPED THE CAR, got out and went back to get it. It blew high in the air, and I expected it to get away, but it blew right back to me. I caught it in the air (score 1).

On the way back to the car, I picked up another one (score 2) and some other stuff, see photo. It only took a minute, but that's one less plastic tumbleweed blowing in the wind. (grin)

So here is my challenge: actually STOP(safely of course), GET OUT and retrieve a plastic bag.

Send us a picture, and I will send you a Green Bag Lady bag. You can keep the one you caught :)

STOP THE CAR! Make a difference!!

Have you caught a bag today?

Way to go, Bagette Dad! I hate those blasted plastic tumbleweeds. Real tumbleweeds are dreary enough, but plastic ones are much worse.

Thanks Jan,
I did it AGAIN on the way back from lunch today(score 3).

I just picked up a bag blowing through our yard. I suspect it was being used for huffing as it was full of pink spray paint.

Wonderful idea, Bagette Dad! Maybe you could keep a running total on how many Plastic Tumbleweeds are rounded up and taken out of the environment.

I think we should ALL keep a running total of what we pick up. I pick up so much stuff just walking around campus, the people who walk with me on a regular basis are used to is and pitch in.

THIS. TOTALLY. ROCKS.
Love the new spin on how to earn a GBL bag!
I can add one score today... on a hike... sadly it had begun to photo-degrade and ended up as a 1,000 pieces in my pocket... yuck!

Dear Bagette Dad, you will love this. I was at the San Francisco Giants game today, when I saw a plastic bag tumbleweed blowing across center field. Outfielder Cody Ross trotted over and retrieved it, putting it in his back pocket. Cody Ross totally rocks!!! Don't you agree!!!??!!!

WOW, I didn't know Cody Ross was a Green Bag Lady fan. Yes I am impressed ;)

Was taking my son to school today and saw the mother of all plastic bags, one of those big ones that come wrapped around something big like a new TV. Unfortunately it attached itself to a car and took off in the other direction before I could get to it. All I can hope is that the car belonged to a GBL fan! I guess I'll have to stick to small individual bags for now, I'm still keeping my eye out for that big one though!

Andrea and others--

I had a guy at an event one time tell me how much he hated plastic bags. The reason was, he was driving and had one get in his muffler system, it melted and caused so many problems that it cost him $500 to get fixed! UGH! Not only are they a scourge to our environment, to our wallets as well!

Good for you!! I used to work in marine mammal rehab and i cant tell you how many times we retrieved plastic bags from the bellies of sea turtles and seals who mistook them for jellyfish. You may have saved a turtle when you 'caught' your bag :)

It wasn't a bag, but yesterday I pulled out TWO aluminum cans from the garbage can. Unbelievably, the garbage can was in the faculty room about six or seven feet away from the recycling bin. GRR!

I will keep my eye out for more stupid bags, though.

hello
And rightly so. I think anyone who cares about the environment, and who does not care what kind of world will live his children would have done the same. If all committed such an act, the land would become clearer.
