Furniture Redos!

Now that I am in my new house, I have been tackling some furniture painting. So fun! I have been thinking about painting some of my existing pieces after being inspired by the amazing Suzonne Stirling and this dresser makeover. Suzonne uses Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (not to be confused with chalk board paint) and loves it. She has several makeovers using the paint on her blog. They are all beautiful.

After moving here, I found a place in Denver that offered Annie Sloan Chalk Paint classes. I went to one last Tuesday and had a ball! I learned 3 techniques and was introduced to the infinite possibilities of the paint. Wow! I was itching to get home and start painting. The great thing about this paint is that you don't have to strip, sand or prep the pieces in any way before you paint. Bonus!

I had 2 pieces that I knew I wanted to use for practice. Both were relatively cheap and were not necessarily going to go in any kind of "showcase" place in my home. The first is this little wicker drawer dresser that was in one of the baths in my old house. It was screaming for a redo and even had some damage on the side (I think from water splashing on it, see 2nd photo).

And, here it is redone in Annie Sloan Antibes Green. I put this piece in the master bath to hold toilet paper and such. I haven't decided if I'm going to leave it there or not. It makes me happy every time I see it though. Such a fun color!
This is the next piece I wanted to play around with. It was also used in one of my old baths. It held the kids' pajamas and was really beginning to show signs of wear from the kids opening the drawers all the time. It was not very expensive so it was perfect for experimenting.
I chose to paint it Paris Grey. I wasn't sure what I would do with it. I thought it might even end up in the basement or in a closet. BUT, now that it is painted, I just love it and I'm going to use it next to my bed as a night stand. Yay!
I added these knobs that I feel in love with on line. I went to the store to pick them up. They are so sweet and heavy. I have saved the old circle knobs to use in the future.
So, there you have it. Two of the makeovers for my new house! I have more to come. I'm eyeing lots of furniture around my house to redo now that I know how easy it is. I'm planning a major project with a china hutch. I promise to keep you updated with before and after photos. I'm thinking this color would be perfect. So pretty. Annie Sloan Unfolded is another site with inspiration and information on the paints for those of us who live in the USA, Canada, New Zeland and Australia. I highly recommend taking a class if you are thinking of using this paint. It is well worth it for all the tips and instructions!

I'd love to know what you have been making/redoing this summer! Teresa

Both of your redos look so cute, but I just love the elephant pulls! I've been busy going through 2 large tubs of fabric that my sister-in-law gave me. I've inherited some really yummy fabrics. I've also been making some bags using your pattern. I thought it was appropriate to use a red, white & blue fabrics for them and give to the family members at our 4th of July picnic! Hope you have a great holiday!

It's good that you're doing it with joy. You are not looking for a challenge in the work you are looking for pleasure and fun. This is a very positive

Great! My daughter was also going to this summer restore the old closet, inherited by us from my grandma!

They look great, Teresa! I do love that Antibes green - I tried it recently with dark wax over it and loved it even more, so thinking of doing my dining room table legs with it. And the second piece is just perfect for a Chalk Paint makeover - I love how it turned out and the elephant pulls are a great touch, too. Now you've inspired ME! Off to look for something to paint today...
(And thank you for the kind words and links!)
