Hutch Redo

I have had these 2 pieces of furniture since 2005. My mother passed away and we cleared out the house. The large dresser was kind of beat up and hanging out in my parent's basement. The top piece was in the master bedroom and clearly missing a bottom half.

This top piece was rescued from my great aunt's house many years ago. My mother and I went out there after she passed away and her nieces and nephews were picking things they wanted to keep. My mom spied this cabinet and the top board. They were in separate rooms but my mom thought they went together and grabbed them. They were in HORRIBLE condition. With the help of a handy neighbor, my mother fixed it up to look like this…
It is nice, but still needed a bottom piece as it is clearly the top part of a buffet. Years ago I decided to set it on top of this dresser (that I refinished) and they looked ok, but never really seemed to go together due to disparaging finishes.
Then, as you know, I have been experimenting with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and felt that these were the perfect pieces to get a makeover.

I am just loving this!
I think these shelves would look so pretty with a collection of white things, dishes, vases, tchotchkes. Don't you think?
Here is a close up of the wallpaper I used to line the back of the hutch.
Here is how I did it:

Hutch and Dresser Paint--Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Provence, 3 coats

Wax--Annie Sloan Clear Wax, 1 coat and Annie Sloan Dark Wax, 1 coat

Shelf Paint--Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey, 2 coats

Wall Paper--This design in Dark Grey/Light Grey from Chasing Paper

I'm not going to tell you this was easy. It was time consuming to do all the coats of paint, let them dry and getting the wallpaper in straight was a whole other kind of challenge. Good thing it was reposition able!

I thought about my mom the whole time I was doing this project and kept wondering if she would approve. Now that it is finished, I think my mom would love it as much as I do!

I'll post another photo once I get my collection of pretty white objects in there! Teresa

Love it! Love the color. I did some redo on my daughters furniture as well. I did a makeover on her room while she went to a mini vacation with her Lala (Grandma). She loved her room when she came home.

It turned out just beautiful Teresa! You did a wonderful job of giving them a makeover! I like the wallpaper you used as well. It goes especially well in your neighborhood with all those deer running around. Can't wait to see the pictures after you put your pretty things in it.

Love love love! This is absolutely beautiful! I would buy this in a heartbeat (you know, if it were actually for sale, and I had a place to put it!). It's a great example of why old items should be refinished and repurposed rather than thrown away. Nice work!

argggh you are amazingly creative.this piece is stunning. if you get tired of bags go into furniture refinishing of old wrecks. people pay a fortune for this kind of thing and it saves some heritage pieces!
