Workday Wednesday

I've had an idea rattling around in my head for a while. Make oven mitts! Nothing revolutionary, just oven mitts. However, I only have one in my kitchen (and I refused to buy more thinking I could make some!), the food encrusted one pictured below. Needs a wash. Soooo, I took a pattern off it by tracing around it on a piece of craft paper.

The main reason I was finally motivated to make these is some of the men in my life are getting them for Christmas.
I used the pattern and cut out 8 pieces for each mitt. 2 of exterior fabric, 2 of lining fabric and 4 of quilt batting for the lining.
 See here…
I pinned them all together and quilted them, put the exteriors facing one another, sewed around the outside, turned it right side out and then used a bit of bias tape to finish off the bottom.
 Easy peasy!
I also added a tag on the bottom (I got mine at Namemaker).
Three cheers for quick Christmas gifts! What have you been making lately? Any craft Christmas items? Do tell. Teresa

Looks great Teresa!! If I get some time, I'll be making some myself. I've been making Christmas table runners for family. Sewing the binding now.

I am with you. I always say I am making these and not buy at the store because I feel guilty spending that much money on something I know I can make. I guess it is also time to make some for my own. I love how yours turned out. Love it!

Aww, thanks Adin! I hope you make some, let me know how they turn out. Probably MUCH cuter than the store ones anyway!

What great oven mitts (love that fabric you used)! Thanks for sharing.

Instead of a gift bag or box to 'wra'p our sons and son-in-law's Christmas checks, we're using silicone oven mitts this year. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to make any with all the other handmade gifts I was working on.

Merry Christmas to you and yours :)

I like these! Good job, Teresa, for making up your own pattern. Now a question--did you wash the original kit?!

Terry--

Great idea! I love that! I may have to use that in the future. :)
