Workday Wednesday: The Sound of Silence

How are you? I'm enjoying a people free, silent home. Big exhale.

Things have been so crazy, crazy around here. That happens. Pretty much from the beginning of Dec until the kids go back to school in Jan, it's all in, all the time. Big Girl's birthday is mid-Dec and Little Girls is the beginning of Jan. Throw those events in with the holidays and I'm chained to the kitchen 24/7. Don't get me wrong, I love to cook and bake, but the all mess and cleaning…

The day before the kids went back to school last week Little Girl had a 102 temp. Yikes! Even with trips to the doctor, it resulted in a burst ear drum (on her birthday!). Poor thing. ENT appointment soon. Even though 2 of the kids went back, I still had a sick one at home. No silence.

I need my quiet time. I need my silence. I need to just be. Finally getting that and doing some making too. Most of the time I'm in my studio I'm accompanied by only silence and I love that. Occasionally I'll binge watch something on Netflix. Almost through all the seasons of this.

And, there is the slightest possibility that yesterday I had lunch…still in my pajamas. A salad with this for dressing. Don't judge until you've tried it!

The following is a run down of what I've been up to over the span of a couple weeks:

Made a HUGE batch of scones (cranberry and chocolate almond), they disappeared in 8.3 seconds…
My mother-in-law had a birthday at the beginning of Jan. She started using a walker so I made her a sturdy bag to carry things. I used this Harmony fabric for the exterior and this for the interior.
It's basically a Green Bag Lady bag with a lining and fancy handle. Simple.
This custom pouch was a special order from my etsy shop. It's only 4in wide and 3in tall. The smallest pouch I've made but what a great idea as a key chain for credit cards, medication, etc.
I've had an idea rattling around in my head for a while, a zippered lunch tote. Little Girl offered to be the guinea pig for a prototype. When I asked her what fabric she wanted she said, "I don't know how to choose, they are all so pretty."
A girl after my own heart for sure. She settled on this deer print with metallic gold trees.
The inside is a coordinating fabric that reminds me of confetti and also has gold details. It went to school with her today, lunch zipped safely inside!
However, I tweaked the prototype pattern just a bit and am happy with this one below. It is slightly smaller than Little Girl's but still fits a tall water bottle (one in photo is 10.5 inches) and lots of other goodies.

What do you think? Should I add some lunch totes to my etsy shop? I'd love your feedback. Off to tennis! Teresa

I love a pretty reusable lunch tote, I'm sure they'd sell well. I've been wanting to try to make one for a while because I have a couple of store bought ones but i would love to make my own. You have inspired me to elevate it on my to do list!!!!!

your lunch bags are wonderful. i really love the key chain pouch. any more deer running across your front yard? I would love to have that here, but alas way too many houses now. about 20 years ago we had deer in our back yard several times. we are close enough to a forest preserve that they ventured out periodically.

Thanks Lori. I see deer pretty much every day here in my neighborhood. They are so tame you can practically walk up to them, of course we don't for obvious safety reasons.

It's too bad when areas get so populated that it drives out the wildlife. Sigh.
