This is how it went this morning. . .
Little Man (my 4 year old, eating a bag of apple slices in the back seat): "Mom, if you see a tree with apples on it, you should eat them."
Mom: "Ok, I like apples."
Little Man: "Because if you eat the apples God will make some more."

How great and wonderful to think about life in such simplistic terms. I do worry about natural resources though. Humans are going through them at quite the rapid rate. I want to make sure there are enough resources for my children, grandchildren and so on. That is one of the reasons I started this project.

First way, Baked Apples!
I cut off the top, core the apple then stick some brown sugar and cinnamon in the middle of it with a bit of butter on top. Then I put it in the over for 10 minutes.
Second way, is cutting one up and dipping it in peanut butter.

apple crisp with vanilla ice cream (haven't home made it yet. next fall after a trip to the local orchard where i'll pick my own)

spinach salad with various yummy vegetables, almonds or candied walnuts, and fuji or gala apples served with balsamic vinegrette

I use apples to satisfy my sweet tooth. I keep a bowl full of freshly-washed apples on my kitchen counter, so when I have a hankering for something sweet, I just grab an apple and crunch away. Not only do I get something sweet, but lots of fiber to boot.
My favorite apples are Pink Ladies, which my husband, for some reason, keeps calling Ladyfingers, as in "Did you get some Ladyfingers at the store today?"
My dogs love apples, too, and happily eat the cores, so no leftovers!

My favorite way to eat apples is to dip them in caramel. They can be a caramel apple on a stick or just dipping slices in warm caramel, doesn't matter to me!

My kids loved homemade apple sauce.
2-3 lbs of apples pealed and sliced
1/2 c sugar
1 T cinnamon
simmer until apples are of sauce consistency. About 45 min to hour
Another favorite
preheat oven to 350
In a bowl mix
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c butter
1 c flour
Lightly press into a square baking pan
In another bowl peel and slice 4-5 med apples
Add 1 T cinnamon and 1/2cup sugar
Mix well and pour into baking pan
Bake about 45 min to hour or until golden brown.
Flour mixture should float to the top and brown
My mom's receipe
cubed apples
purple grapes
diced pecans
mayo
Chill for an hour and enjoy
YUM
Now my favorite
Just grab an washed apple and take a bite.
You know I really like honey crisp too. But yellow apples are the best. I make this really good apple dip which really, you just give some pizazz to PB but it tastes only a little bit like PB.................
I think the idea of the bags is fabulous! Keep it up!
My two daughters love apples, and we'd love to have fabric bags instead of plastic ones to put apples and other fruits in!

In all honesty, I am not an apple person, but the rest of my family members certainly are! I love to make homemade apple crisp for them. Also, I work at a preschool, and my kiddos there love to spread apple slices with marshmallow fluff and then stick raisins on. It sounds disgusting to me, but apparently the sweet, sticky, and tart flavors combined are quite yummy for them!
You have such a neat site here, Green Bag Lady! I stumbled across it from another blog and am really enjoying my stay here. Keep up the wonderful work!

Apple is my favorite fruit. I've kept my one-apple-a-day routine for many years. My favorite way is just to eat it raw and with skin. Thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite for cooking is Courtland. They make great pie. My mother used to make an apple cake (apple slices, dotted with butter and cinnamon, smothered in a dense yellow cake batter and baked until golden brown, mmmm), but she didn't pass the recipe on to me. I can almost delude myself into believing Red Delicious slices dipped in Jif Extra Crunchy are as good as a carnival vendor's caramel apple.

Here is the recipe for my apple dip. Heat a bowl of PB up for about 15 sec. so it will soften, mix in some yogurt and a few pinches of cinnamon. Yum!!!

PUFF PASTRY APPLE TARTS
2 sheets Pepperidge Farm frozen puff pastry, thaw according to package. directions
4 apples, peeled if preferred, cored, and sliced very thin
4 T sugar
2 T butter melted, or butter spray
1/4 c. apricot jelly, melted
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
1. Unfold pastry and place on lightly floured board.
2. Cut 3/4" strip off each long side.
3. Cut large piece into six-eight evenly sized squares.
4. Place squares on an ungreased baking sheet. Prick evenly with fork. Brush long sides with water. "Paste" on strips along each long edge.
5. Peel apples. Cut in half lengthwise and cut out stem and core. Place apples flat side down on board and cut across into paper thin slices.
6. Arrange slices in overlapping rows on each tart.
7. Spray butter spray lightly over apples on pastry. Or, brush the apples with melted butter. Sprinkle tops with sugar.
8. Bake 20 minutes or until pastry is golden brown and apples tender.
9. Brush warm melted apricot jelly on warm tart OR serve warm with vanilla ice cream. Serves 6-8.
