I have decided to start posting a new series on Tuesdays about tools that I love. It will include everything from eco to sewing to around the house and more.
First up, irons…
This is my favorite iron. I have had it for over 20 years. (similar one here) I love it because it is small, light and has a super long cord (why, I have no idea) AND it does not shut off. I know that the shut off is a great safety feature but when you are quilting and your iron shuts off all the time, it is annoying and you have to wait until it heats up again. Sheesh.
This is my other iron. I had a really fancy schmancy Rowenta one before this (seriously, I think hubby spent $100 on it) but it died after about a year. Just stopped working. I could plug it in and the light would come on but it would not longer heat up. How annoying is that. Of course, it was past the warranty so I couldn't do anything about it either.
I picked up this guy at Target for less than $25. I think it may have even been on sale for $20. I have had it now for over 6 months and it works great. The only thing I don't like is that it seems to catch small pieces of fabric in the bottom holes. Otherwise, it works well and I have no complaints. I don't notice much difference between this one and the expensive Rowenta I used to have.
Sew Mama Sew did a great post comparing irons. Including the iron shown above in case you are interested in reading about them.
What iron do you have? Do you love it? Do tell. Teresa

I have a Sunbeam steam master that I searched for and purchased after I had used one in a hotel. The best iron for pressing creases in jeans I have ever used. You would have to wrestle me to the ground to take it from me.
Wow Marie, I might have to look that one up with such a high recommendation!
I'm with you on the regular Rowenta irons not being worth the money. I had one that leaked water all of the time, which was so annoying. I found a Rowenta pro steam station at the local thrift store for $30 and it's worked great for me.
Oooh, that's awesome Judy! I'll have to look at the thrift store!
Teresa, I have a few different irons, but my favorite one was a wedding present--37 years ago! It doesn't shut off, either.
Of course it is M. S. the old ones are awesome! Actually, that is why I bought the classic B&D one, I thought it would be as similar to old school as possible!
I had two irons finally bite the dust a couple months ago, so I sent my husband to Walmart and told him to buy the cheapest one they had. I was mad at irons since two went out back to back. He came home with a Black & Decker. I wish it didn't shut off, but hubby really likes the fact that it does!
Black and Decker seems to be a popular brand!
