Camping and Rain

You all know that I love rain.  I do.  The only time I don't like rain is when it floods (of course) and when I am camping. We went camping yesterday morning.  It was a beautiful day.  We went hiking. . .

Saw gorgeous Tennessee landscapes. . .
And some fun wildlife. . .
And then it started to rain, and rain, and rain. . .the rain stopped, we were happy and then it rained again.  Nothing like packing up soggy tents to return home.  We had fun while it lasted though.  I hope you have had a nice holiday weekend.  Teresa

PS--Come back tomorrow, I'm going to post a freebie!

Recycling 103

More info on recycling. . .to read the first post go here.

Again, I am going to assume that ALL of you out there are doing basic recycling of bottles, jars, cans, etc.  Here are some helpful ways to recycle some other things too:

Styrofoam. . .I heard a while back that you could recycle styrofoam at Publix grocery stores, but when I did the last post, I went to their website and couldn't find any information on it so I didn't post about it.  Well, lo and behold, I was at Publix the other day and look at this. . .YAY!  Go go go to Publix and do a little dance while you recycle your foam. However, if you save some of your styrofoam trays, you can do this great project with kids!

I talked about Gimme 5 in the last post too.  But did any of you go and look at their website to see what they do with all the plastic?  Did you?  DID YOU?
They make cool stuff like toothbrushes, kitchenware, etc.  Gimme 5 drop off location are all listed here. They also use the plastic to make Tom's of Maine deodorant packaging. Raise your hand if you use Tom's of Maine deodorant.  Good, ok, I'm going to talk about this a little more in a future post that will include a FREEBIE. . .stay tuned.  Teresa

BIRD Feeder. . .

I bought a bird feeder because the one Little Girl and I made one from a juice carton got wet inside and the seeds were sprouting.  We needed a real one.  The kids LOVE to watch the birds come and go and we have some nice cardinals in our yard.  THEN, Little Man and I were eating breakfast on Monday and saw this. . .

At first I thought it was a strange bird. . .below is the path the critter took.  He would hang upside down and eat the seeds. . .hmmmmm. . .
I'm going to try and move it up higher.  Sheesh.  Teresa

Cumberland Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution members display their green shopping bags.

Fairy Gardens. . .

We have been busy around here trying to get plants in the ground, pots and baskets. I saw this in the fall and tucked it away in my head for this spring. I was so glad to pull it out and make them with my kids and the neighbor girl (Little Neighbor). It is also a green project. I already had the pots. I found the houses and fairies while thrifting. Most of them were a dollar or less.

Pieces of broken pots were used for drainage rocks as well as the "paths" to the houses.

Make them, kids love it and it's really fun. My kids keep playing with theirs and changing them around. Thanks for the great project idea from THAT ARTIST WOMAN aka the amazing Gail. She has a ton of great ideas on her site. Keep your kids busy this summer!  Teresa

We Are Nashville. . .500 bags!

After the flood and destruction here in Nashville, I wanted to do something. Nashville based Cool People Care was screen printing t-shirts with a We Are Nashville design on them, the proceeds going to Community Foundation Flood Relief Fund. It occurred to me that bags could be screen printed too. I contacted Sam Davidson at Cool People Care and we got the ball rolling. . .

THIS thread donated by Lane. . .

PLUS labels donated by NameMaker. . .

PLUS this bolt of organic fabric donated by Harmony. . .
PLUS this AMAZING 2 day Sew-A-Thon at Belmont University including MANY Belmont faculty and staff (and of course several Bagettes) about 15 people each day. . .
EQUALS 500 bags to donate to Flood Relief.  Yes, really.  500 in 2 days.  2 days.  It was amazing.  The bags look like this. . .and you can buy them online here (all proceeds go to the Flood Relief Fund). . .
The bolt from Harmony made a bit over 300 bags.  We made others from fabric we had on hand.  They look like this. . .these will be given away in exchange for donations around Nashville. . .

More pics from the amazing Sew-A-Thon, that was organized by Bagette April (front). . .sewers hard at work, at one time we had 8 machines humming!
Bagette Carole modeling a finished bag. . .
Sam Davidson from Cool People Care picking up finished bags. . .
Why did we do all this? Because WE ARE NASHVILLE. . .

Thank you to EVERYONE that participated.  I feel truly blessed. If all goes as planned, we will donate over $7000 (or more if people are generous) to the Flood Relief Fund. You can also see the 500 bags project on the news here:
