Photo Finish Friday

Even though I'm a vegetarian, I can appreciate a beautiful bird. :) Made by my awesome friend Martin Gossen.
What?

I haven't met a nut I don't like. I'm going to live forever!

Squeee! So pretty!

This is awesome.

I need to make some of these as foot rests! (and stuff them with fabric scraps!)

Fa la la, these are adorable.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday today and you are relaxing today! I'll be skiing. Yup. Teresa

Thankful

Source
I have so much to be thankful for. Here is my partial list:

My husband, hilarious, supportive, my best friend.

My kids, funny, sweet, wonderful and melt my heart.

My Dad, he does SO much for me and for this blog, you have no idea.

My family, sisters, brother, in-laws, cousins, the whole massive lot of you!

My friends, you know who you are and I love you.

My Bagettes, the best volunteers EVER!

My home, neighborhood, schools, church, neighbors…

My readers, YOU, yes you. I love your comments, questions, photos (!) and surprise when you win a freebie. I love it all and am so thankful you come back day after day. I wouldn't be here without each and every one of you! Thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart.

Wishing you the very best Thanksgiving wishes. Let's all relax on Friday instead of trying to shop, okay? Cyber hugs to all of you--Teresa

Workday Wednesday

I finished Little Girl's quilt top. YAY! It will go off to the long arm quilter soon. I just took the 2 other quilt tops there today (finally). Can't wait to get them back! I think this one turned out great. I love the variety of fabrics used in it! So fun.
I will this Harmony fabric for the backing and this for the binding. I might not have enough but I figure I can just use a different fabric, no biggie.
I also completed a stack of bags, of course.
 And a mess of handles.
What are you up to today? Preparing for Thanksgiving tomorrow? Teresa

Tuesday Tools

I have decided to start posting a new series on Tuesdays about tools that I love. It will include everything from eco to sewing to around the house and more.

First up, irons…

This is my favorite iron. I have had it for over 20 years. (similar one here) I love it because it is small, light and has a super long cord (why, I have no idea) AND it does not shut off. I know that the shut off is a great safety feature but when you are quilting and your iron shuts off all the time, it is annoying and you have to wait until it heats up again. Sheesh.
This is my other iron. I had a really fancy schmancy Rowenta one before this (seriously, I think hubby spent $100 on it) but it died after about a year. Just stopped working. I could plug it in and the light would come on but it would not longer heat up. How annoying is that. Of course, it was past the warranty so I couldn't do anything about it either.

I picked up this guy at Target for less than $25. I think it may have even been on sale for $20. I have had it now for over 6 months and it works great. The only thing I don't like is that it seems to catch small pieces of fabric in the bottom holes. Otherwise, it works well and I have no complaints. I don't notice much difference between this one and the expensive Rowenta I used to have.
Sew Mama Sew did a great post comparing irons. Including the iron shown above in case you are interested in reading about them.

What iron do you have? Do you love it? Do tell. Teresa

Dear Mother Earth…

Dear Mother Earth--

White is my favorite blanket color too.

Your biggest fan--Teresa

Where's My Bag

Mary Alice from Where's My Bag sent me a fun box of goodies last week. She sent me a whole stack of great fabric for bags. Yay! We have already cut up and sewn some of it into bags. AND, she sent me one of her great bags that she makes from old pet food bags. See more of them here.

Very cool upcycling Mary Alice! Kind of reminds me of the onion bags! Teresa

Workday Wednesday

Hello there. What have you been up to this Wednesday? I've been making more houses for Little Girl's quilt that I first posted about last Wednesday. I'll now start putting the grey strips around all of them and then linking them together. Since I'm just winging this and not following a pattern (although I'm making all the block 12 inches high), I'm not sure if I have enough or not. I'll see as I go along. The great thing is if I need more, I'll just make more! As you can tell, I lopped off the tops of some of the houses. I like how it makes them a different shape. I'm thinking this quilt will be approximately the size of a twin size bed when finished.
And, while we are at it, lets talk about this great cutting table my friend Meg gave me. Sadly, she is moving from Colorado to California. She had this amazing cutting table that could not go with her and offered it to me. I'm. In. Love! It's incredible. The 36 inch X 70 inch cutting surface (she even gave me a cutting matt to go with it!) is metal so you can use magnets instead of pins when cutting patterns. I love how big it is to lay out things, like quilts!
Thanks Meg, you are the best! What are you working on today? Teresa

Fabric + Flour = YES!

Look at this! Flour in a fabric bag. I didn't know this existed anymore. I usually buy my flour in paper bags and recycle them when empty but this is great! I have big plans, BIG plans for this girl when she is empty! Wait and see! I mean, how cute is that bird? Aaaaaand, it is LOCAL flour from right here in Colorado. Life complete, kinda. Teresa

Finished Dresser!

I told you back in this post that I was working on another dresser project using Annie Sloan chalk paint in her red color called Emperor's Silk. It's finished! Here are the before shots.

The dresser had pretty good bones but had lived through some heavy use. There was a great mirror on it too. I took the whole thing about apart and gave it a good cleaning. Then I got to work with the red paint. I put on one coat and was going to put on the second coat the next day. However, the more I looked at it, I really liked it with just one coat. I felt the second layer of paint would make it look too perfect and pretty. I was going for more of a worn in look, like it had been painted years ago. So, I left the one coat and did the waxing and sanding as usual. (nice shoes in the mirror, ha!)
Here is the finished product! I really love how is looks in my entry way.
Those drawer handles are the reason I bought this off Craigslist in the first place. To say I adore them is an understatement!
Sooooo pretty! Carved wood, yum!
The mirror isn't too shabby either.
These little drawers on the top are really sweet but were missing pulls. I thought it might be hard to find ones to cover the HUGE holes.
But, Home Depot to the rescue. I brought one of the drawers with me to make sure the back of the knob would cover the holes.
Hubby was with me and ran around and found washers to put behind the holes to the knob would stay in place. Knobs were about $4/piece and washers were 14 cents. Score!
I'm so happy with my new dresser! Hazaaah! Teresa

Onion Bags!

Bagette Barbara rescued these great onion bags headed for the trash bin at her local farmers market. She thought we could do something with them. So smart, Barbara!
I quickly turned one into a bag and gave it back to her. These held 50 lbs of onions so they are very sturdy and ready to haul almost anything! I'm thinking they would be great pool bags with the mesh OR great beach clean up bags. I may need to send these to Danielle or Sara!
I finished the others over the weekend. They are so so so easy. If you are at the farmers market, grab some and turn them into great bags.
I love all the different, funky labels! Thanks Barbara, you are the best! Teresa

Busy lady!

Green Bag Lady--

I have been making bags with your pattern for some time. there are the latest. of course i have tweaked the pattern a bit to suit my needs. but you are an inspiration for this. thanks for being kind enough to share the pattern.

Quite the sky here last night in Colorado. It was like looking through rose colored glasses. Everything was pink!
Simply darling.

The death of film. (huge sigh from a former photo professor)

I may have to make these.

Lovely rugs.

Nice.

What a beautiful universe we are privileged to live in.

I wish for you a lovely weekend with much time spend outdoors. I am hosting a "Preemptive Thanksgiving" on Saturday for some friends. Yum! Teresa

Workday Wednesday

Posted late due to freebie yesterday. However, I was working yesterday in my studio and noticing the autumn thread colors in my serger. The thread was a donation. Doesn't match, doesn't matter!

And, I'm working on a quilt for Little Girl. Little Man and Big Girl both have them. It's time.
I'm using lots of scraps and so many fun fabrics from my stash. It's a perfect quilt for that! I was inspired by this quilt found on Pinterest. It's so fun to make all the little houses. I think when it is all said and done I will have made a thousand of them!
I love being able to use such a variety of fabrics and colors and the dark grey ties them all together.
It's coming along slowly. I'll show you more progress next week. What are you working on? Teresa
